The 100th Anniversary Celebration was chaired by Marc Zuckerman ’60, David Minkoff ’81 and Jeffrey Licht
. A special thanks is also warranted to Mark Halsman ’83 who helped us design a logo to commemorate the anniversary and to secure a special tailgate jacket for the Brothers in attendance to wear proudly.

The agenda included a 90 minute open bar with plentiful and tasty hor d'oeuvres for Brothers to meet, greet and reunite around. Brothers were then hoarded into the ballroom for dinner, which included a salad, filet, crab cake and dessert. Dinner entertainment included a video montage with pictures dating back to 1913 along with numerous speeches/stories. BAA President Jeff Licht formally kicked off the night by asking Rabbi Jeff Eisenstat to say a prayer. Rabbi Jeff proceeded to tell stories of his days at Beta Sig which set the tone for numerous brothers to follow suit.

Brief speeches were made by BAA President Jeff Licht and BSF President Rob Eisman ’79. An educational seminar on the origins of the word BIMMIE followed by Robert Simmons. Andy Lyons '72 outlined his proud Beta Sig lineage. Robert Jubileer then enlightened us to his most difficult political campaign---vying to win election to the Penn State Board of Trustees. A Memorial Scholarship in memory of David Lipson ’65 was unveiled by son Casey, David "Rosey" Rosenberg ’74, Dan Otto ’08 and Zach Asbury ’11. Unequivocally the speech of the night was delivered by Barry Fireman ’63. Barry shared a story about his daughter, Debby, who suffers with a rare disease called Ehlers-Danlose syndrome. The family sought an opportunity to meet with the renowned specialist whose practice was closed to any new patients. Barry drafted an email to various Beta Sigs. Beta Sigs then forwarded the email throughout their own Beta Sig circles, and three Beta Sigs, who did not know Barry, made the introductory meeting for the Fireman Family to the doctor a reality. The night was loud but you could hear a pin drop as Barry lauded the greatest bond of our fraternalism.

A photographer shot non-stop pictures all night long of past Undergraduate Chancellors, past BAA Presidents, past BSF Presidents, Pledge Classes, etc. These pictures, along with the video montage, will soon be posted on our website, www.betasigmabeta.com.

In case the camaraderie of brothers reconnecting and having a good time drowned out the announcement of future events, please note the following upcoming excuses to get together:

  • Habitat for Beta Sig: A weekend gathering of alumni and undergraduates at the House this July to perform a House project and have fun together.
  • Kick-off Classic: Penn State opens the College Football 2013 Season on August 31 versus Syracuse. We are trying to organize a tailgate in North Jersey for the game. Please email Jeff Licht if interested.
  • Homecoming 2013: This year's Homecoming will be same as the University's when we battle Michigan. The weekend is October 11-13. Tickets and rooms will go fast so please contact Jeff Licht as soon as possible if interested in attending. We also are seeking Chairpersons for the event. Ideally, classes celebrating their 20th, 30th or 35th anniversaries would prove special.

Lastly, please contact a member of the BAA Board if interested in being the next BAA President as Jeff Licht's term expires this summer.
