Have you heard the news? As reported by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on April 23, “Pat Daugherty, owner of The Tavern, has agreed to let a new bronze statue of Paterno be placed on the property of his restaurant in downtown State College. The statue will feature Paterno sitting on a bench reading the ‘Aeneid' and will be commissioned by Philadelphia sculptor Zenos Frudakis in the fall of 2015.” Click here to read the full story.

There are those who are in opposition to the idea. At least one online petition has been created to build support against “Joe’s Bench.” A portion of this petition reads as follows: “We believe that it’s appropriate to remember and appreciate the many contributions Joe Paterno made to Penn State and the broader community in his roles as a football coach, educator and philanthropist without the presence of a statue in downtown State College.” Click here to read the entire petition.
